DESCRIPTION

Marianne Heller fond [ printed matter, textual materials, video]; circa. 1982-1989

Marianne Heller (1930- ) is a Toronto based entrepreneur, business owner and social activist active in the 1980’s and early 1990’s. She owned a fur shop on Bloor called “Vintage Furs” and was the former president of the Yonge-Bloor-Bay or Bloor-Yorkville BIA in the 1980’s when Festival of Festivals had venues in Yorkville. As president of the Yonge-Bloor-Bay BIA, Marianne was very involved in creating Festival Village and spearheaded events such as "Window of Windows" a film themed window display contest judged by famous filmmakers. She was the founder of the Inner City Angels, a non-profit that provides arts programming for at risk children. She is the subject of an unreleased documentary called "Heller's Angels" about her work with the Inner City Angels. She was also a board member of the Academy of Canadian Cinema, a founding member of the Theatre Alliance Group and was part of the same social circles as Canadian figures such as Gerald Pratley, Dusty Cohl and Ed Mirvish.

This collection contains materials related to Festival Village initiatives and Mrs. Heller's involvement in the film industry from 1982-1988.
