Project Grizzly Suit Purchase

DESCRIPTION

Project Grizzly Suit Purchase fond [artifact]; circa. 1990's

The Grizzly Suit is the subject of Peter Lynch's 1996 NFB Documentary Project Grizzly, which gave the Grizzly Suit and it's creator, Canadian inventor Troy Hurtubise, cult status.

Troy Hurtubise spent 10 years perfecting the Ursus Mark IV suit of armour. Inspired by a chance encounter with grizzly bears, Hurtubise developed a suit of armour that would protect it's wearers from grizzly attacks. Hurtubise frequently used himself as a test subject to improve the effectiveness of the suit against bear attacks. There were multiple renditions of the Grizzly Suit over the years but none ever came face to face with a real life grizzly bear.

Named the Ursus Mark VI, this suit is one of several iterations of the suit produced throughout Hurtubise's project and the filming of Peter Lynch's film, Project Grizzly. It is made of chain mail, galvanized steel, titanium, high tech plastic and liquid rubber.
