DESCRIPTION

Atom Egoyan fonds [artifacts, graphic materials, textual materials, architectural drawings, moving images and sound]; 1974 to 2001.

Atom Egoyan is a filmmaker based in Toronto, Ontario, Canada. He was born in Cairo, Egypt in 1960 to Armenian parents. His family immigrated to Victoria, British Columbia in 1963. Atom Egoyan was already performing, and writing and directing plays while in high school in Victoria, including participation in drama festivals and local productions. He attended the University of Toronto, obtaining a B.A. in International Relations in 1982. Egoyan began filmmaking in 1977, and continued making short films, as well as playwriting and drama productions, while at university. His first feature length film, "Next of Kin", was released in 1984, followed by several productions for television. His second feature, "Family Viewing" (1987), was recognized at festivals in Toronto, Montréal and Berlin. Subsequent feature films have been screened at international festivals including Cannes, have received international distribution, and have earned numerous prestigious festival and peer awards including Genies and Academy Award nominations. Atom Egoyan is now established among Canada’s most significant filmmakers. His professional credits include directing, writing, and producing.
