Don McKellar fonds [textual records, graphic materials, moving images] circa 1989 - 2000.
Don McKellar (1963-) is a Canadian actor, writer, and filmmaker. He was raised in, and is still based in, Toronto, Ontario. His early acting roles included the Bruce McDonald films "Roadkill" (1989) and "Highway 61" (1991), which were followed by the television collaboration "Twitch City" (1998-2000). McKellar authored the screenplays for acclaimed Canadian films "32 Short Films about Glenn Gould" (1993) and "The Red Violin" (1998). His directorial debut, "Last Night" (1998), garnered wide critical acclaim. McKellar has also had extensive invovlement in the theatre world, most notably in writing "The Drowsy Chaperone" (1928). McKellar received the Order of Canada in 2016.
The fonds contains a significant component of scripts, as well as publicity materials, some production records, photographs and moving image materials. Film titles represented include "Blue" (1992), "Thirty-two Short Films About Glenn Gould", "The Red Violin", and "Last Night"; as well as McKellar’s collaborations with Bruce McDonald — "Roadkill", "Highway 61", "Dance Me Outside" (1994), and the television series "Twitch City". The fonds also includes some records pertaining to other Toronto and Québec filmmakers with whom Don McKellar has collaborated as story editor, actor, and writer. McKellar’s role in the Toronto theatre community is also represented, including records from The Augusta Theatre Company.
