DESCRIPTION

Bruce McDonald fonds [textual records, graphic materials, moving images]; circa 1977 - 2003.

Bruce McDonald (1959-) is a Canadian director, writer and producer of film and television. He was born in Kingston, Ontario and educated at Ryerson University's film school. His work often deals with rock and roll and alternative culture. McDonald is best known for the films "Hard Core Logo" (1996), "Highway 61" (1991) and "Roadkill" (1989), as well as the television series "The Rez".

Archival records created by Bruce McDonald, his production offices at Shadow Shows, and his collaborators, including Colin Brunton and Don McKellar, the rock band A Neon Rome, and early supporter and mentor Norman Jewison. The fonds contains scripts, publicity materials and posters, original artworks, some production records, as well as moving image materials documenting early home movies in Super 8, student work at Ryerson University, early short film work, and subsequent work as an independent Toronto filmmaker and television director. Feature titles represented in the fonds include "Roadkill", "Highway 61", "Dance Me Outside", and "Hard Core Logo". The fonds also includes some records pertaining to Bruce McDonald as producer, as well as creative material related to works in development or currently in production.
