DESCRIPTION
TIFF NOTE
If any animated duo was ever overdue for a feature-length film, it would have to be Wallace and Gromit, whose series of wacky, smart shorts took cult and popular audiences by storm in the nineties. Screwball inventor Wallace and his uncannily clever canine Gromit return in this world premiere of Wallace & Gromit: The Curse of the Were-Rabbit, which is sure to please lovers of gentle satire and claymation connoisseurs alike. The voiceover work of a cast of top British actors elevates the phenomenon to a whole new level of hilarity. The madcap adventures of the wide-eyed plasticine twosome are made bigger and more audacious in this spunky tale, as pandemonium strikes the quiet British suburb Wallace (Peter Sallis) and Gromit call home. As host of the annual Giant Vegetable Competition, the alluring Lady Tottington (the inimitable Helena Bonham Carter), calls upon Anti-Pesto, Wallace and Gromit's humane extermination company, to catch the mysterious beast that has been devouring the town's vegetable plots. As the situation turns desperate, Wallace and Gromit must not only contend with the creature, but also try to outwit the sly and supercilious Victor Quartermaine (Ralph Fiennes in a delightfully deft caricature), who craves the glory of capturing the creature as well as Lady Tottington's affections. The sharp dialogue and elaborate sight gags of Wallace & Gromit are the product of the inspired craftsmanship of the team at Aardman Animations, who have perfected a quirky and memorable signature style. Nick Park teams up again with Steve Box following the enormous success of their debut animated feature, Chicken Run. The irresistibility of their new film lies in its delectable combination of technical flair, wry British humour and incisive pop-culture commentary - a foolproof combination for cracking good fun.
