Richard Kerr Collection
DESCRIPTION
Richard Kerr fonds [artifacts, video recordings, equipment]; circa 2004.
Richard Kerr (1952-) is a Canadian filmmaker and artist. His early films were associated with the Escarpement School of experimental filmmaking. Kerr turned to installation work in the 1990s, engaging with the physicality of the film medium. He is currently a faculty member at Concordia University in Montréal, Québec.
This fonds is comprised mainly of light boxes, some of which form his "Industry Series" 2003-2004. The frustrations encountered by Kerr from working on an unrealized feature length film led him to direct his energies to the production of sculptures known as Motion Picture Weaving Light Boxes. Using found footage and some of his own film material he wove film and mounted it in backlit frames.
